Disk snapshot indexing
@elena I have a question related to disk snapshot indexing.
Right now, they're indexed incrementally: disk0, disk1, disk2 etc.. which seems weird to me for at least two reasons:
- since the simulation is run by steps, and since the number of step between snapshot is kind of adjustable, wouldn't it be more intuitive to index them by step ? so that with a step per snapshot of 10, we would have disk0, disk10, disk20 ?
- you indicated in ticket #382 (closed) that you sometime decimate the snapshots, which probably imply the the index are not always incremented by one anyway. So the index does not convey that much meaning apart from order any way. Indexing by step would provide an information that would survive decimation.
- let say that n the above example, I decide that having step 15 would be nice after all, I can restart from 10, dump disk15 and insert it in the simulation without having to shift the ext indexes
So ok that's 3.
I started wondering about that because there are a few place where we need to keep track of both current step and current output number. Which is annoying.
What do yo think ?
